Carrie Underwood will make her silver-screen acting debut this weekend in Soul Surfer, the inspirational movie based on the true story of competitive surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost her left arm in a shark attack at age 13.
In theaters Friday, April 8, the film introduces Underwood as Sarah Hill, Hamilton’s youth group leader. (Other Soul Surfer stars include AnnaSophia Robb, Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid.)
“Acting is a completely different animal (than singing)," Underwood, who has guest-starred on the TV sitcom How I Met Your Mother, told USA Today. “But I thought it was a wonderful project. It was all about the story and getting the opportunity to tell it ... people can go see this movie and walk out inspired.”
